Ethan P. Wescott

Ethan Pryor Wescott, born in 1883 in New Jersey, was the son of John W. and Frances Oatman Wescott. His father, John W. Wescott, was a renowned trial lawyer and judge, known for delivering President Woodrow Wilson’s nominating addresses at Democratic Conventions. Ethan grew up in Haddonfield, NJ, residing at 43 Chestnut Street, which was owned by his family. Following in his father’s footsteps, Ethan pursued a legal career after completing his education and passing the bar exam.

In January 1920, Ethan married Edna, and they had a daughter named Catherine. They resided at 730 Park Avenue in Collingswood, NJ, and later welcomed a son named John. The Wescott family continued to live in Collingswood according to the 1930 Census.

Ethan P. Wescott had a successful and lengthy career as a lawyer. During the 1920s, he formed a partnership with Joseph A. Varbalow in a law firm. He also served as the Camden County Prosecutor in the late 1920s. His brother, Ralph W. Wescott, was a member of the Delaware River Port Authority. After retiring from the legal profession in the 1930s, Ethan ventured into the dairy business.

Ethan P. Wescott actively participated in various fraternal and Masonic organizations, including the Junior Order of American Mechanics, the Improved Order of Red Men, and Camden Lodge 293 of the Elks. He passed away in 1954 and was laid to rest at the family plot in Harleigh Cemetery in Camden, NJ, alongside his father and other family members.
