32nd Street

Thirty-Second Street extends from the Delaware River southward, traversing River Road to the Pavonia railroad switching yards, and dividing the Cramer Hill neighborhood. It resumes in East Camden at Lemuel Avenue, continuing to Federal Street with a brief interruption by the railroad tracks at Rosedale Avenue. From Federal Street, it proceeds to the city limits at Highland Avenue.

Aligned with the naming convention of all numbered streets in Camden, structures north of Federal Street carry a North 32nd Street address, while those south of Federal carry a South 32nd Street address.

In the 1930s, at the intersection of Westfield Avenue and 32nd Street, there was an acre of cultivated land featuring an old house known as the “Mansion.” This site was cleared to accommodate the Westfield Acres public housing project, and the land was acquired for $6,000. In the late 1960s, a 10-story high-rise building for senior citizens was erected on this location. The “Acres” was demolished in 2000, making way for a new residential area called Baldwin’s Run.

During the 1980s and 1990s, the corner of North 32nd and Saunders Street, formerly an exit from the Westfield Acres project, became infamous as one of the most notorious drug corners in East Camden. This area witnessed at least one murder during those years.
