Arthur Cuellen Batten (1904–1972), known to his fellow firefighters as Artie, joined the Camden Fire Department on March 4, 1927 and served until his retirement on February 28, 1969, rising to captain of Rescue Company 1 and acting battalion chief. He lived for many years at 1132 North 22nd Street in Cramer Hill and invented the un-patented ring cutter used by the rescue company to remove finger jewelry.
Adelbert J. "Duke" Kirk Sr. (1918-1989) was a Camden firefighter who was appointed to the Camden Fire Department on November 16, 1956 and served with Engine Company 3 until his retirement on December 1, 1981.
Fourth Street, one of Camden's original streets, ran with few interruptions from Chelton Avenue in South Camden north to Pyne Point in North Camden. City-directory records, photographs, advertisements and newspaper clippings for every block from the 2000 block of South 4th Street to the 1000 block of North 4th Street.
Thomas J. Carr Sr. was re-elected president of the Camden Police and Firemen's Association for 1958; Arthur C. Batten was elected recording secretary and Winfield Leviseur chairman of the board of managers.
