1861 - The First War Meeting in Camden
Three days after the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter, Camden citizens issued a resolution pledging loyalty to the Union on April 16, 1861, followed by a patriotic war meeting at the county courthouse on April 18 that organized the county's first Civil War volunteer companies.
