Bradshaw School; aka Challenge Square Academy; aka Met East High School 1151 Kaighn Avenue Camden had become an industrial city by the 1880s, and although the country went into an economic slump in the early 1890s, generally referred to as "the panic of 1893," the city continued to grow and with it the need for new schools.
"Q- Where was the first home you remembered? "A- The first home that I can remember was at 12th, that I really remember, was on 12th and Penn streets in Camden. "Q- How old were you then? "A - I don't know, 3 or 4 years old.
The Linden School, a Camden public school opened in 1890 at 429 N. 10th Street, replaced in 1926 by the William F. Powell School and later demolished.
Services for Miss Anna M. Johntra, 90, of 732 Market Street, who taught in Camden public schools nearly 40 years and was principal of the Linden School from 1905 to 1916.
