Alleged Blackmailer in Toils
Declared by Camden's police to have confessed to being one of the gang of "black handers" who conspired against John Piligro, mulcting him of his savings through alleged protection against threats of vengeance, August Marino, twenty-seven years old, of 808 Locust street, was arrested by Detective Troncone and held for a hearing tomorrow before the Recorder. Three other of the alleged conspirators were recently convicted and are awaiting sentence.
The police say that Marino engaged the ones already convicted, the conspiracy having its inception when Michael Castilanno told of his rage against John Piligro because the latter's revolver, accidentally discharged, had killed a young son of Castelanno's. The latter, through Marino, is alleged to have hired the three "to cut Piligro's face." They told Piligro of the plot and demanded blackmail.
