Bed Sheet Rips to Fail Attempt at Suicide

An 82-year-old man, despondent over advanced age, allegedly attempted suicide Saturday night. He was John Williams, of 860 North Twenty-eighth street.
Detective Sergeant Frank Crawford said Williams tied a bed sheet to a bureau in his bedroom on the second floor, climbed out of the window with the other end of the sheet tied about his neck, and dropped. The sheet was ripped and Williams fell to the ground.
Patrolman Everett Joslin and John Toal took him to Cooper Hospital where he was treated for cuts of the left eye and possible fractures of the left hip.
Charles E. Williams, his son, living at the same address, told police the aged man attempted to cut his throat a few weeks ago.
