A Boy Drowned in Cooper Creek—Death of ex-County Clerk Kirkbride.
While his widowed mother was attending a picnic yesterday a lad named John Young, living on Larch street, was drowned in Cooper creek. About 3 o'clock in the afternoon the boy went bathing at the head of Twelfth street. He could swim, but was taken with the cramp and despite his struggles and efforts to reach the shore, he was drowned. Up to a late hour last night the body of the unfortunate little fellow had not been recovered.
