COMPLAINANT IN THEFT HELD ON RUM CHARGE
A complaining witness was held in $500 bail for the grand jury in police court yesterday when a man he had arrested for stealing his car testified he had bought whisky from him.
Henry Benzuk, 32, 502 Jackson street, charged James Draper, 36, 1676 Ferry avenue, with stealing his new automobile. Draper denied stealing the car and said Benzuk had loaned it to him. He testified he bought liquor from Benzuk. Despite the fact that Draper did not wish to make complaint, Benzuk was held.
Harry Benzuk of Jackson street, Camden, who reported to the police that he had been robbed of $15 by James Draper, of 1676 Ferry avenue, found himself in an awkward predicament yesterday, when, after Draper had been arrested on a larceny charge, the officer who made the arrest found a pint bottle of liquor in Benzuk's possession.
Benzuk was held in $300 bail for court on a liquor charge. Draper was held in $300 bail for court on the larceny charge. Philadelphia Inquirer, August 11, 1928.
