Cooper Mansion Bought for Public Park

Talked About in Camden Wednesday night's meeting of City Council was one of the most important held for years. Not only was a contract for a new water supply from artesian wells awarded, but an ordinance was adopted to purchase ground for a public park. The ground comprises the block bounded by Cooper, Penn, Front and Second Streets. The purchase is to be made at once, and before next summer the park will probably be ready for use. The property is part of the Cooper estate, and will be sold to the city for $75,000. In addition to the ground there is a large three-story brick house, which will probably be utilized as a public library. There was some dissatisfaction over the proposed purchase, as it was stipulated that the ground should never be used for any other purpose than a public park. This stipulation, however, has been withdrawn by the owners. [illegible]
