Wednesday night's meeting of City Council was one of the most important held for years. Not only was a contract for a new water supply from artesian wells awarded, but an ordinance was adopted to purchase ground for a public park. The ground purchased is the block bounded by Cooper, Penn, Front and Second streets. The purchase is to be for $75,000. In addition to the ground there is a large three-story building which will probably be utilized as a public library. There was some dissatisfaction as to the purchase on the ground that it was stipulated that the ground should never be used for any other purpose than a public park. This dissatisfaction has been withdrawn by the owners.
