Bats 1,000 as Arthur Laxton Elopes with Helen Kocher
Joking Led 'Otts' to Elkton Journey
Eddie Brandt Joined League of Matrimony Only Last Saturday
OTT LAXTON — The latest holdout has signed. Arthur Samuel Laxton, brilliant basketball star of the First Ward Republican club, has joined his teammates in the Matrimonial League. Laxton eloped to Elkton with Miss Helen Kocher of Camden. Laxton is a forward and Brandt is center on the First Ward quintet. Charley Sheets, a guard, and "Edge" Quicksell, forward, were married within the past six months, while Frank Hambleton, the other guard, has been wed several years. Charley Humes, manager of the team, has been married more than a year.
Cupid, who has been on the rampage in the First Ward Republican Club, at last got the only remaining holdout, Arthur "Otts" Laxton. The joking and good-natured ribbing at practice led to the Elkton elopement. All of the other married players had been at him to join the league and he finally gave in. The last to fall — before "Otts" — was Eddie Brandt, who was married only last Saturday. And so the entire starting lineup of the First Ward cage team is now in the Matrimonial League, and Cupid is batting 1,000.
