Den of Voodoo Doctor Is to be Destroyed

Helena Independent, Helena, Montana — April 12, 1925

Camden, N.J., April 12 — Armed with axes and shovels, a squad of policemen and firemen tomorrow will destroy the tunnels and mystery chambers in the voodoo house of "Reverend" E. H. H. Hyghcock, an undertaker and self-styled healer, who, with his wife, is locked up on suspicion of murder, and also on charges of practicing medicine without a license, and obtaining money under false pretenses.

Hyghcock occupied two adjoining houses. After his arrest and the inspection of the buildings brought to light several crude tunnels, weird chambers, idols, dead chickens and cats, a tabernacle and three organs. A 7-year-old daughter said that her father had killed a woman and buried her body in the cellar of one house. Bodies of two negro infants were found in one of the tunnels.

Armed with axes and shovels, a squad of policemen and firemen tomorrow will destroy the tunnels and mystery chambers in the voodoo house of the "Reverend" E. H. H. Hyghcock.
