Camden Courier-Post – November 24, 2006
The Second District Community Collaborative Board, a group of neighborhood and government organizations in Camden, will host a beef-and-beer fundraiser Tuesday for the family of Ambioris Antonio Pena-Duran, the grocery store clerk killed during a robbery in Camden.
The fundraiser is scheduled for 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Bartholomew Church, 751 Kaighn Avenue, Camden.
Meanwhile, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Camden Police continued to investigate the November 11 killing, prosecutor’s office spokesman Bill Shralow said today.
Pena-Duran, 35, was shot to death inside Cesar’s Grocery Store at 4th and Liberty streets.
A teenager went behind the counter, grabbed a female clerk, pointed the gun to her head and demanded she open the cash register, authorities said. Pena-Duran approached the teen from behind and tried to wrestle the gun away in an attempt to save the female clerk. The woman ran out of the store to safety.
As Pena-Duran tried to get the gun away, the assailant broke free and shot Pena-Duran in the chest, authorities said. Pena-Duran then rushed toward the gunman, who shot Pena-Duran again. The shooter fled.
Tickets for the fundraiser are $10 each and will be sold at the door. For more information about the fundraiser, call (856) 225-8663 or (856) 366-8878.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Senior Investigator John Greer of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office at (856) 225-8400 or Detective Eric White of the Camden Police Department at (856) 757-7420.
