'Have the Ambulance Ready'
To the Editor:
I see they are planning to build a new dirigible for the Navy, so I guess they better get ready for the next disaster.
The long list of crashes overtaking such lighter-than-air craft should have discouraged the House naval affairs committee from any more such projects. The big balloon probably will turn out to be another flying coffin that will make widows and bereaved mothers on a wholesale scale.
If we have to throw that money away, I say, why not put it into some more boondoggling? At least that will keep radio comedians in material for their gags and thus spread cheer over the nation instead of gloom.
Or seriously, why not put it in fighting planes which have proved their worth whole?
