Jesse Johnson Dies at Age 77

Jesse P. Johnson, 77, former vaudeville star, was stricken fatally Thursday while in bed at his home, 19 North Twenty-eighth street.

Mr. Johnson was found by a son, Willard G. Johnson, manager of the Towers theare, who called police. Dr. R. Dean Cavalli, county physician, and Coroner Robert J. Blake said Mr. Johnson died of natural cuases.

Mr. Johnson retired several years ago after touring the United States and playing in theaters on Broadway. He and two sons, Willard and J. Mortimer, were billed as "The Johnson Brothers and Johnson."

Born in DesMoines, Iowa, Mr. Johnson was a resident of Camden 60 years. He was a member of the East End Republican League of the Twelfth Ward.

Also surviving are two other sons, Clark R., Tacoma Park, Md., and Edgar H. Haddonfield; a brother, Harry H., Maple Shade; a sister, Mrs. Bessie B. Clark, Woodbury, and three grandchildren. Willard Johnson lives at the Twenty-eighth street address and Mortimer Johnson in Merchantville. Mr. Johnson's wife, Jennie G., died three years ago.

Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Murray funeral home, 408 Cooper street. The Rev. Samuel A. Jeanes, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Merchantville, will officiate. Burial will be in Harleigh cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday night.
