East Camden Man Loses $13, Which Negro Highwayman Secures After Gagging Him
On his way home from work yesterday afternoon George Elton, of 141 North Twenty-sixth street, East Camden, was held up and robbed on Baird avenue, near Marlton pike. His assailant, a negro, secured $13 and made his escape.
Elton works in South Camden, and he cut through Baird avenue at Forest Hill Park to reach his home. As he was walking along he heard someone say, “Pretty hot day,” and when he replied in the affirmative and looked around he saw the negro. The next moment, Elton asserts, he was knocked unconscious by some blunt instrument. When he regained consciousness he was gagged and his money, representing his week’s wages, had been taken. Persons passing through the avenue found Elton lying on the ground.
