EVESHAM – An elderly township couple was terrorized and injured this morning by a would-be burglar wielding a sword.
Police said Angelo Levecchia. 72, of 11 Carriage Lane, and his wife, Antoinette, no age available, were asleep when a man wielding a 30- to 36-inch sword awakened them at about 445 am
The man. who police say apparently entered the home by forcing open a first-floor rear window, demanded cash and jewelry.
Police said Levecchia somehow became involved in a scuffle with the robber and that he was slashed several times and beaten during that scuffle. His wife also received bruises and abrasions, they said.
The intruder apparently then fled the home without taking anything, police said, and police were notified.
Levecchia and his wife were rushed to nearby Garden State Community Hospital, where they were undergoing treatment for their wounds. While their conditions were unknown, police said both were expected to be admitted.
Police said a search of the area failed to locate the attacker.
