Policeman George Horneff Gathers Them In Gently. Policeman George Horneff gathered in a number of prisoners yesterday. For some time he has been watching No. 705 Baxter street, which had been reported as a disorderly house. Yesterday he noticed that the "growler" was being steadily run at the Baxter street house, and late in the afternoon he commenced his task of gathering the parties in. The first to be caught was John Helmbold, ex-fireman of No. 3 house. John had the pail in his hands when arrested, but was unable to steady himself sufficiently to reach the saloon. Julia Lamott, James Lewis and Harman Shafer next left the house, all in a state of intoxication, and the jolly officer promptly called the patrol and had them conveyed to the City Hall. Horneff then entered the house and there found Mamie Boyle, Amanda Cross and Frank DuBois. These, too, were brought to the hall. Last night Mayor Pratt gave them a hearing. Helmbold, Lewis, Shafer, DuBois and the woman Julia Lamott, were committed to the county jail under the disorderly act. Mamie Boyle and Amanda Cross, alias Mamie Meyers, were committed in default of $500 bail for keeping a disorderly house.
