Policeman Rescues Boys Adrift in Boat
Camden—(AP)—Cries of three small boys adrift on the Cooper River in a water-logged skiff brought Police Sgt. Earl Wright to the rescue in a rowboat.
Playing along the river bank yesterday, Alfred Checetto, 6, Joel Harris, 6, and his brother, Warren, 4, found the skiff, climbed into it and cast off the lines. As it quickly drifted into the stream the boys became frightened.
Wright heard their calls, commandeered the rowboat from a nearby club and towed the skiff to shore. Motorists watching the rescue caused a traffic snarl in Admiral Wilson Blvd.
