ROBBERS IN SKIRTS. Baxter Street Thieves Adopt Feminine Attire. The police having succeeded in jailing many of the notorious colored females of the Seventh Ward, who managed to make a good thing by robbing unsuspecting citizens who wander through the tenderloin while suffering from too much bug juice, the lovers of the women who shared their ill-gotten gains have, if the story of George Brown, of Magnolia, is true, resorted to the same means, and in order to make their schemes work have donned feminine attire. Brown, who is a man of sixty years, was arrested late on Saturday night by Officer Donovan, who was attracted to Baxter street by cries of "help!" He found Brown in a maudlin condition. This morning, when arraigned, Brown said he was passing through Baxter street, when approached by two "ladies." He engaged in a conversation about the weather, when suddenly one of the "ladies" grabbed him by the arms, while the other rifled his pockets of three ten dollar "Williams." The "ladies" then ran toward Lilly Row, and in their flight lifted their skirts showing men's trousers. At this juncture, Donovan appeared and sent Brown out. The Recorder administered a severe reprimand to Brown and then suspended sentence. The police are looking for his "lady" friends.
