Roscoe Funeral Will Be Sunday

Funeral services for Chief Petty Officer Arthur C. Roscoe, 51, of 3397 Gwinnett Walk, Fairview, who was killed aboard the USS St. Augustine when it collided with a merchant vessel off the Atlantic coast last week, will be held at 9 p.m. on Sunday.

A chief water tender aboard the USS Reuben James in World War I, Roscoe had been in service in the present war for 15 months. Before enlisting he was employed in the electrical department of Public Service for 20 years.

Assigned to the USS Ashville when he enlisted, Roscoe recently had been transferred to the USS St. Augustine. He carried a rating of chief water tender in the USNR at the time he enlisted.

Services will be held at the Albert F. Mahaffey Funeral Home, 502 Linden street. Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Fort Meyers, Va.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Doris Roscoe, and a daughter, Marion; a son, Donald, of the USN; a sister, Mrs. Essie Shoup, of Kouts, Ind., and five brothers, Henry, of South Dakota; John and Albert, of North Dakota, and Millidge and Carl, of Minnesota.
