Row on Baxter Street

ROW ON BAXTER STREET. A Giddy Colored Woman Causes a Lively Racket. Charles Bruce, colored, living at Coxtown, has been separated from his wife for some time. Last night he received information that she was at the house of Della Brown, who lives with her husband Charles who occupies two rooms of the house at 704 Baxter street. According to Bruce's story he went to the house of the Browns last night and was set on by Della and her husband and cut so badly that he has been in the Cooper Hospital ever since, with the exception of a few minutes he spent at the hearing this morning. At the hearing Bruce claimed that his cuts, of which there were many, were inflicted by Brown and his wife, mostly by Brown, who, he says, had a knife in his hand. Mrs. Brown took all of the responsibility for the affair and said she inflicted the wound with a piece of a broken stove, while defending herself from Bruce who came to the house, created a row and cut her hand with a razor. Mrs. Brown's hand was also badly cut which she said was done by Bruce. Mrs. Brown was held in bail for court.
