SHOCKED TO DEATH AS HE OILS MOTOR
Harry Lay Electrocuted This Morning at Farr & Bailey's Oil Cloth Plant.
FATAL CURRENT THROUGH LEAK
While oiling an electric motor under an oilcloth printing machine at the Farr & Bailey plant this morning, Harry Lay, 38 years old, of 1147 Baring street, was electrocuted.
A "leak" from a grounded wire in the motor killed Lay, who was lifeless when fellow employees, in answer to his screams, dragged him from beneath the machine.
It was Lay's duties daily to see that the electric motor was kept in condition. This morning he crawled under the machine to oil the motor. The power had been turned off. Lay had oiled one side and was leaning over the motor to oil the other side and in doing so he touched the motor, which was "alive" because of the grounded wire.
Officials of the company tested the motor and found the grounded wire which caused the workman's death. Coroner Arthur Holl viewed the body and gave a certificate of accidental death. The dead workman leaves a wife and three children.
