Ware Street was established in the 2000s following the demolition of the Chelton Terrace Public Housing project. The street runs east from Master Street to South 10th Street, parallel to Bulson Street, which is located to the south.
There was a family named Ware who were active in the civic life of the neighborhood during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It would be nice to believe that the Housing Authority of the City of Camden or city officials named the street in their honor — one member of the Ware family was a firefighter who died in the line of duty. However, given the political climate of the time, marked by pandering and disregard for historical preservation, it is doubtful that these Wares were considered in the naming decision.
