Technician Fourth Class Isaac Z. Gosling (1911–1942) was born in Camden to Boston and Elizabeth Gosling; the family had moved to 118 North 23rd Street by September 1918. Called to service in March 1941, he died of pneumonia in England on September 3, 1942 while serving with the 85th Quartermaster Depot Supply Company, and was buried at Beverly National Cemetery in 1949.
Private First Class William Groome (1916–1944), a former New York Shipbuilding Company employee who had lived for six years at 119 North 23rd Street in East Camden, served with Company K, 351st Infantry Regiment, 88th Infantry Division. He was killed in action at Anzio, Italy on May 12, 1944 and was buried at Beverly National Cemetery in 1949.
Joseph Xavier Voll (1925–1945) of Camden, NJ served as a Fireman First Class in the United States Navy and was one of the original crew of the USS Caswell (AKA-72). He was killed in an accident at Riverton, New Jersey on January 12, 1945, less than a week short of his 20th birthday, and is buried at Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly, NJ.
Ensign Hilding Iver Wahl of the U.S. Navy, USS Abner Read DD-526, was mortally wounded on August 18, 1943 when his destroyer struck a mine off Kiska in the Aleutian Islands and died of his injuries on August 28, 1943. He had lived at 1140 North 24th Street in Camden and is buried at Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly, New Jersey.
Services for Pfc. William Groome, killed in action at Anzio, Italy on May 12, 1944, were held at National Cemetery, Beverly, with military rites conducted by a squad from Ft. Dix. He had resided in Camden for six years at 119 North Twenty-third Street.
