Kossuth Street

Kossuth Street ran south through South Camden from Van Hook Street to the railroad tracks; named for the Hungarian revolutionary Louis Kossuth, much of it was razed in the 1950s for the Franklin D. Roosevelt Manor and Chelton Terrace public housing projects.

A two-alarm fire sweeps a grain pit at Camden Grain Co. on Kossuth Street. The blaze, discovered at 4 a.m. by night watchman Caspar Krispin of 2046 Arlington Street, spreads smoke and fumes over a mile-wide area.
