John H. Carroll (1861–1932) operated Carroll's Hotel and saloon at South 3rd and Cherry streets in Camden, ran a horse-and-wagon stable and an excavating business that graded Yorkship Village, and was a longtime Fifth Ward Republican committeeman.
Founded in 1903 as Camden's Italian-language parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, with its church built at 4th and Division Streets around 1907. United with Our Lady of Fatima in 1974, the parish at 832 South 4th Street has served Camden's Italian and Hispanic communities for over a century.
