Walter Page Hubbs Sr. (1871–after 1953) was a Camden, NJ police officer appointed in 1902 and dismissed in 1905 when Republicans returned to power. He later worked as a car repairer at the Pavonia railroad yards, living at 201 North 27th Street.
27th Street runs from the Delaware River through Cramer Hill and East Camden to Marlton Avenue. Originally called Fulton Street before the 1899 annexation of Stockton Township, it was one of the main thoroughfares of the neighborhood and home to football star Mike Rozier.
Mounted Policeman Harold Hubbs of 201 North 27th Street returned to duty after his horse stumbled and threw him during a Saturday-morning chase near the Harry Sharp School, but his injured leg forced him home after two hours.
Walter Hubbs had his thumb nearly severed at the Pavonia car shops, and John Meyers of 1032 North Twenty-second Street had his arm badly squeezed between a car axle and a lathe.
