Camden Police Believe Husband's Story of Suicide by 19-Year-Old Wife After Quarrel. Although Camden's police are satisfied that Mrs. Florence Walters, nineteen years old, of 2010 Howell street, East Camden, committed suicide by inhaling illuminating gas following a quarrel with her husband, Herman Walters, twenty years old, the latter is being detained pending a post-mortem examination at 11 o'clock today by County Physician Stem. A bruise over one of Mrs. Walters' eyes is not believed to have been administered with sufficient force to cause death. Walters, who is employed as a grocer's clerk, told the police that he and his bride of six weeks had quarreled Wednesday night. At the breakfast table he said his wife renewed the quarrel, and he admitted he had struck her a slight blow. At noon, when he returned from work, he said, he found her in the front room with a gas jet turned on and the windows tightly closed. He carried her to another room and notified Dr. J. W. Martindale, who made a vain effort to revive her. According to Detective Brothers, there is every evidence that Mrs. Walters had committed suicide. All the windows and doors had been closed and plugged with paper. The bruise on her head may have come from a fall, the detective said, when she lost consciousness. The young woman was formerly Florence Hutchinson. Before her marriage to Walters she made her home with her step-father, John Wills, 2216 North Lambert street, Philadelphia. They had only recently gone to housekeeping at the Howell street address.
