CAMDEN REACHES DEADLY MILESTONE

A 41-year-old city man was found dead inside a vacant home here Thursday morning, making him the 11th homicide victim this month and matching a deadly milestone last seen in July 2004.
Officials said the man, who was not named because family had not been notified, was found in a home near the corner of Sycamore and Clover streets. The cause of death remained under investigation Thursday evening.
As investigators combed the scene around noon Thursday, John Greenleaf Whittier Elementary School was in session directly across Sycamore Street. Silence around the scene was interrupted for a few moments when the school's intercom issued a request for someone to call the main office.
The 11 homicides are the city's highest tally in a single month since July 2004, when the city registered 10 homicides. An 11th person died in July of that year after being shot in June. Overall, 54 people were killed in 2004.
Of the homicides this year, one person was killed by police.

David Lee Douglas was stabbed to death and found inside a home near the corner of Sycamore and Clover streets at 10:41 a.m. Thursday, officials said. The killing remains under investigation.
