With impressive ceremonies the corner-stone of the new parochial school connected with Sts. Peter's and Paul's Church, St. John and Spruce streets, Camden, was laid yesterday. Several hundred persons, including the Knights of Columbus, the Society of St. Francis, St. Aloysius Club, Italian and Polish societies and visiting priests, were present. The societies marched to the place headed by a platoon of police under command of Captain Arthur Stanley.
Under a canopy of American flags and yards of bunting Very Rev. Provincial L. M. Miller, of Syracuse, head of the St. Francis Order in America, laid the stone. In the receptacle had been placed the names of national, state, county and city officials, together with those of the Pope, the bishops, the general of the Order, the rector, the assistant rector of the church and copies of newspapers. Rev. Father Miller preached a sermon in German, which was followed by one in English by Rev. Stephen Lyons, of Salem. A choir of 100 voices from the various Catholic churches of the city rendered a musical service under the direction of Professor Dilger.
The school will be constructed of bluestone, having two floors and a basement. There will be six class rooms and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 700. It will cost about $37,000 and will be the most up-to-date in South Jersey. It will be in charge of Rev. Lucius Mott, pastor, and Rev. William Peberl, assistant pastor, of Sts.
