Christmas Tree on Fire

The sixth fire, at William Greenan's residence, No. 1731 Kossuth street, was also caused by a Christmas tree. Greenan's two children, William, aged 4 years, and Clarence, aged 2 years, were playing about the tree when they accidentally knocked it over on the stove. Flames shot up through the tree, and before the children could get out of the way their clothing caught fire. Their cries attracted the attention of their father, who rushed to their assistance. He was severely burned while rescuing his children. Both boys were seriously burned about the face, hands and bodies. They were taken to the Cooper Hospital. The damage to the house was slight.
A Christmas tree in the parlor of William Greenan's home, 1731 Kossuth street, caught fire from the candles on Tuesday afternoon, but before the flames had made great headway Mrs. Greenan extinguished them with a bucket of water. The furniture in the room was slightly damaged.
