C. of C., Port Body Send Delegates to Win U.S. Aid on Marine Terminal
City officials and representatives of the South Jersey Port Commission and the Camden Chamber of Commerce are leaving this afternoon for Washington to attend the hearing tomorrow before the Rivers and Harbors Committee on the deepening of the Delaware river channel in anticipation of construction of the $2,000,000 marine terminal.
Cost of the improvement to be made by the government, in accordance with its agreement to do the work with approval by Camden citizens of the terminal plans, will be approximately $300,000. The channel is to be dredged north of the terminal as far as Berkley street.
Mayor Price, commenting today on the project, declared that there should be no obstacle confronting the city in obtaining approval of the Government to the channel improvement.
"If the city is ready to spend $2,000,000, the Government would be willing to put up $300,000," the mayor said.
The mayor, Commissioner T. Yorke Smith, and Harold W. Bennett, city solicitor, were among the group preparing to leave by train for the Capitol this afternoon.
