Defends McBlain

To the Editor: I would like to make a few statements also correct a few statements that were printed in the newspapers about the case of David McBlain. I, his half-sister, as well as others who know the true side of his arrest and trial wish to make these statements. We know beyond doubt he is innocent and is serving a sentence for two crimes he did not commit. My brother did not leave his home Friday or Saturday, Feb. 17, 1940, only long enough to go to the market for me Saturday afternoon between 1 and 1.30 p. m. I had four witnesses to testify and prove they had visited our home at different times on the Saturday all these witnesses testified they saw and talked to David. These witnesses are residents of the neighborhood for 30 years and over, and have never been in any trouble of any kind, and are good respected citizens of Camden. I feel sure when the jury convicted David last Tuesday they did not do so on evidence that was against him. But they had pictured his past that he had paid dearly for his wrongs then. I want everyone to know that when David McBlain stood in front of the judge Friday and said "I am innocent," he told the truth. And I'm going to clear his name. MRS. E. M. FENTON. 2407 Howell street.
