FAILS TO PROSECUTE CHARGE OF ASSAULT
When Sophia Davis, a negress, of 124 Clay street, with blood-smeared hands made a complaint of assault and battery against Thomas Brooks, a spectacled negro, at Police Headquarters yesterday afternoon, she was so plainly under the influence of liquor that Sergeant James Tatem warned her to come to Police Court sober in the morning or she might get locked up herself.
Sophia did not appear in any shape in court to-day and Recorder Stackhouse discharged Brooks. The woman in her complaint charged Brooks with slashing the fingers of her left hand with a knife in a house in Centreville, following him from there with blood dripping hands to Third and Cherry streets, where she had Policeman Shaw arrest him. Then she had her wounds bandaged at Cooper Hospital and vamoosed.
