Nichols Fell From the Sliding Pole Directly in Way of Fire Horse
Thomas H. Nichols, of 703 South Fourth street, a fireman at No. 3 engine house, Camden, was severely injured early yesterday morning by a fire horse stepping on his chest. An alarm of fire was turned in and Nichols, being on the second floor, went down the sliding pole. He slipped and fell. Just at that moment the horse, released from its stall, ran past Nichols, planting one of its hoofs on his chest. The fireman was rendered unconscious and for a time was thought to be fatally hurt. He recovered sufficiently to be taken home.
