Leconey Before the Grand Jury

Chalkley Leconey, who was recently acquitted of murdering his niece, again appeared in the role of a witness yesterday. He went before the grand jury with the object of securing an indictment against Detective Patrick M. Gallagher, of the Prosecutor's office, and Garrett Murray, who was one of the principal witnesses against him in the trial. He based his claim of perjury on the ground that the detective and a colored youth had sworn falsely when they testified that the chicken coop had been moved. The grand jury, after hearing the evidence, refused to find a bill. Leconey refused to be interviewed by a reporter, saying that he did not care to talk to newspaper men.

The grand jury also refused to find a bill against John Harden, who killed Henry Rawlins in self defense, near Haddonfield, on February 6. Harden was discharged from custody.
