Watchman Shot, Robbers Sought

Although a bullet fired by one of two negro robbers passed clear through his chest, John Brazier, a private watchman of Camden, has a chance for recovery at Cooper Hospital. The bullet dropped to the floor when surgeons at Cooper Hospital removed Brazier's clothing. The watchman's condition is serious, but the doctors say he has a fighting chance. He was shot at Fourth and Line streets, Monday night, when he resisted the negroes, who demanded that he hand over his money. Brazier, although wounded, fired at the robbers as they fled. One of the men temporarily halted at the first shot, and it is the belief of the officer that the bullet took effect. Captain Schregler is of the opinion that the robbers are the same two who held up and robbed Thomas Pine of $6 at the point of a revolver. Pine lives at 667 Vanhook street and was held up at Sixth and Mechanic streets. Two colored men are being held on suspicion, but Captain of Detectives Schregler does not believe they are the bandits.
