Police Act Following Funeral of Man Meeting Mysterious Death in Bed

Daughter Permitted to Accompany Mother to Detention Headquarters

Following the funeral of her husband, Regicina Barnetto, in whose sudden death on Sunday there is an element of much mystery, Mrs. Caroline Barnetto, 32 years, was taken to police headquarters yesterday afternoon by Detective Troncone. At the same time, her brother, Michael Stellao, 25 years old, of 334 Cherry street, was also sent to the City Hall. Mrs. Barnetto was sent to the detention headquarters with her 11-year-old daughter, Mary. Stellapo was placed in a cell. No charge was made in the police docket against either the widow or her brother and when Captain of Detectives Schregler was asked for a statement he said that the couple were being held until his department completes its investigation.

When the police were called to the Barnetto home at 313 Line street on Sunday they were told by the widow that her husband had ended his life by inhaling gas. Coroner Holl could find no evidence of gas and when he found suspicious marks on the neck of the dead man he called in County Physician Stem, who made an autopsy of the body. This showed that the windpipe had been crushed, and in the opinion of the County Physician death was due to strangulation. Barnetto was buried at New Camden Cemetery.
