Albert Thomas York, born on October 26, 1876, in Pennsylvania, moved with his family to Camden, where they established their residence at 641 Elm Street by 1910. Unfortunately, Albert’s father had passed away by that time. The 1910 Census indicates that Albert York was employed as an ambulance driver.
In 1920, Albert York, still unmarried, resided with his brother, Charles A. York, at the family home on 641 Elm Street in North Camden. The household also included their 80-year-old widowed mother, Caroline, and Albert’s younger sister, Bertha. At this point, Albert York had become a member of Camden’s police department, eventually rising to the rank of sergeant. He continued to serve on the Camden police force at least until the spring of 1942.
When Albert York registered for the draft in the spring of 1942, he was still living at 641 Elm Street. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly thereafter, and his name does not appear in subsequent Camden City Directories. While his sister Bertha is listed in the 1943 Directory, she, too, was absent from the 1947 edition.
