George H. Durar III was born in the Bronx, New York, to Jean and George Durar Jr. He was one of four siblings, along with his brother Brandon and sisters Daralyn and Deana.
After serving in the U.S. military, George Durar III joined the Camden Fire Department on December 16, 1974. By 1994, he had risen to the rank of Captain and was leading Engine Company 11. Among the firefighters under his command at the time were Donald Johnson, Frank Sandrock Sr., and Luis Vera. Notably, both Johnson and Sandrock later advanced to the rank of Battalion Chief. George Durar retired from the department on January 1, 2000.
A resident of Atco, New Jersey, since 1979, he was an active member of the American Legion and participated in several pool leagues. He also had a passion for auto racing and motorcycles.
In the early 2010s, George suffered a near-fatal fall at home. Unfortunately, he was later diagnosed with cancer, which claimed his life on July 27, 2017.
