Joseph F. Wood was born in Pennsylvania around 1884 to German-born parents. He moved to Camden around 1910. By the 1920 census, he was living with his wife Henrietta at 701 South 4th Street and working as a riveter in one of Camden’s shipyards. By 1930, he had bought a home at 637 White Street, between 4th and 5th and Line and Beckett Streets in Camden, and was working as a clerk for the city. He also owned and operated a candy store at the White Street address. A staunch Republican, he served as a committeeman from Camden’s Fourth Ward.
Joseph Wood died of a heart attack on June 1, 1950, and was buried at Harleigh Cemetery. He had no children and was survived by his wife, a brother named William, and a sister, Mrs. Cecelia Wright, all of Camden.
