Richard G. Coffman
Richard George Coffman was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 21, 1947 to George E. "Bud" Coffman and his wife, the former Elizabeth Dukes. His father was a Navy veteran of World War II and worked as an electrician at the Philadelphia Navy Yard and later as Director of Technical Operations for the Defense Industrial Supply Center in Philadelphia. The Coffman family also included a daughter, Diane.
The Coffman family was living at 1149 North 22nd Street in Cramer Hill by October of 1956, and were still at that address as late as October of 1970.
On December 30, 1969 Richard G. Coffman was appointed to the Camden Fire Department. He reported for duty on January 1, 1970.
Richard G. Coffman's parents had left Camden for Collingswood by the fall of 1969. Richard Coffman made his home at 2839 Garfield Avenue in Camden, but left Camden after the residency restrictions governing firemen were lifted. Richard Coffman later made his home in Westmont, New Jersey.
Richard G. Coffman served with Engine Company 3 in the latter years of his career. After completing 25 years service he retired on February 1, 1995.
Richard G. Coffman moved to Florida after his retirement. His parents had moved to Leisuretown in Burlington County. His father, "Bud" Coffman, died in October of 2001, and his mother passed in May of the following year. Richard Coffman was living in Clermont, Florida during this time; however, he apparently was living in Cherry Hill, New Jersey when he passed away on July 12, 2004. Richard Coffman was survived by his wife, the former Lillian Grey, son Daniel, sister Diane, three granddaughters, and an uncle, Malin F. Coffman Sr., of Maple Shade, New Jersey.
