James H. Carey was born in Pennsylvania in October of 1838 to parents James and Catherine Carey. During the 1850 Census, the Carey family resided in Lower Dublin Township, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. In 1860, the Careys relocated to Camden.
2nd Street extends north-south between Front Street and 3rd Street, running parallel to the Delaware River until Mechanic Street. In the early 1970s, several buildings were cleared on the east side of North 2nd Street below Mickle Street to make way for the Royal Court townhomes and Mickle Tower senior citizens apartment building.
Third Street runs north and south, parallel to the Delaware River, through North and South Camden, featuring notable corner buildings like the Security Trust Building at 301 Market Street and the Mickle Tower Apartment House at 200 Mickle Boulevard.
Captain James H. Carey , retired employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad and one of the last survivors of the battle between the Monitor and the Merrimac will celebrate on March 9th the sixty-sixth anniversary of the event.
