Clare Street is a one-block thoroughfare in South Camden, running from Pine Street to Division Street. Originally called Pine Avenue, it was renamed Clare Street between 1878 and 1890, then later renamed Jesthroe Hunt Sr. Lane in honor of a Camden firefighter who passed away in 2005.
More than 1000 persons attended a "Night in Ireland" party at Labor Temple, Broadway and Royden Street, in honor of Patrolman John McTaggart, "Broadway's Irish Cop," with former Governor Harold G. Hoffman and Acting Chief of Police Ralph Bakley among the guests.
Requiem mass was celebrated in Sacred Heart Church for Mrs. Ruth McTaggart, 46, of 915 Broadway, wife of Patrolman John McTaggart, with burial in Calvary cemetery. Camden policemen formed a guard of honor and served as pallbearers.
The Sixth Ward Republican Association's third annual "Night in Ireland" honoring Patrolman John S. McTaggart will be held March 16 in the Eagle's Hall, 415 Broadway, with more than 3000 tickets sold.
