2 Men Denied Bail in Ward Shooting

2 Men Denied Bail in Ward Shooting Alleged Bandits Charged With Assault and Intent to Kill Edward C. Dillon, 21 years old, 1641 North Phillip street, and Edward Brennan, 23 years old, 1114 Porter street, Philadelphia, were held without bail by Recorder Cleary today on charges of atrocious assault and battery with intent to kill. Dillon has been identified by Policeman Robert Ward as the man who twice shot him when he attempted to investigate the suspicious actions of seven men in the vicinity of Sixth and Everett streets early last Saturday. Ward is in a serious condition at the West Jersey Homeopathic Hospital, suffering from a bullet wound below the heart and another in his left lung. Joseph Brennan, 25 years old, 1114 Porter street, Philadelphia, brother of one of the suspects, claims to be the owner of the motorcar abandoned by the bandits. He was released under $500 bail as a material witness. Dillon appeared unmoved when brought into court but Edward Brennan was nervous and frequently shifted from one foot to the other as his counsel, Walter H. Keown, conferred with Prosecutor Bertman in efforts to secure their release under bail.
