Raymond R. Snape Carries Baby to Safety and Summons the Fire Department
The firemen at Twenty-seventh and Federal streets were called out to a fire at the home of Raymond R. Snape, 2826 Cramer street, by Snape, who ran breathlessly to the fire house to turn in the alarm. Upon their arrival they found the house full of smoke. Investigation showed that Mrs. Snape had placed some meat on the stove to cook, and had gone out to the store, and while she was gone the water having boiled off, the meat began to burn, filling the house full of smoke.
Snape, who arrived home before his wife, found the house filled with smoke and rushed upstairs, where he heard their baby crying, where it had been asleep and had been awakened by the suffocating smoke. He wrapped the youngster up and carried it into a neighbor's house and then ran for the firemen. Outside of smoke no real damage was done.
