J. J. Schaffer Dies; Camden City Fireman
James J. Schaffer, 48, Camden fireman, of 814 Morgan boulevard, died yesterday of pneumonia in West Jersey hospital.
Mr. Schaffer, who was appointed to the Camden fire department in April, 1923, was the engineer of Engine Company 10, Ninth and Morgan streets. He was a member of the Firemen's Benevolent Association, the 14th Ward Democratic Club, Inc., and the 14th Ward Men's Republican Club.
Mr. Schaffer is survived by his wife, Florence, and a son, James Jr. Also surviving are three brothers, Albert and George of Camden, and John, of Runnemede, and three sisters, Mrs. Emma McAmeny and Mrs. Rachel Rowe of Camden, and Mrs. Mathilda Parks of Mantua.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday at his home. The burial will be in Harleigh cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening.

A-Blast Witnessed By Camden Man
Marine Cpl. James Schaffer, Camden, witnessed the atomic explosion and then joined in the mock assault on an objective near the atomic impact area at Camp Desert Rock, Nev., his mother was notified Monday.
Corporal Schaffer is a member of the divisional battalion from Camp Pendleton, Calif., which was flown to the desert site to participate in atomic attack problems.
Corporal Schaffer entered the Marines in January, 1951. He is the son of Mrs. Florence and the late James Schaffer, 814 Morgan boulevard, Camden.
