Yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock Prof. F. A. Finkeldey, Instructor of Physical Training in the schools of this city, who assumes charge of a similar position in Girard College, Philadelphia, on February 1, was requested to present himself in the auditorium in the Manual Training and High School on Haddon avenue.
When the professor walked on to the stage he was met by City Superintendent James E. Bryan. After the exchange of courtesies Superintendent Bryan in a neat, well-turned speech, on behalf of the teachers throughout the city, presented Professor Finkeldey with a handsome embossed leather album, containing eulogistic resolutions beautifully engrossed with the autograph of every teacher appended.
After Professor Finkeldey recovered from the surprise he made a short talk full of feeling, during which he said he would always treasure the priceless gift. At the conclusion of his remarks he bowed and was about to further inspect the resolutions when he suddenly became aware that his wife and children were witnesses to the presentation.
The situation can better be imagined than described. It is doubtful if a teacher ever left the city with such genuine expression of regret.
