Two Prisoners Attempt Suicide in Their Cells Temporarily deranged, two prisoners in the Camden city jail tried to end their lives during the early hours of yesterday morning and they would have succeeded but for the vigilance of Captain Hyde. Martha Williams, a negress, 26 years old, of 327 Division street, was found hanging to the bars of her cell by a pair of garters. She was cut down by Captain Hyde and revived at the Cooper Hospital. This was followed by an attempt by Nicholas Gearguise, a Pole, to knock his brains out against the iron bars. He was subdued and placed in a padded cell. Later Recorder Stackhouse gave each twenty days in the county jail.
